Ziyanda Brenda Sixolo

I grew up in rural Eastern Cape near Keiskamahoek. The highest grade I completed was grade 11. I moved to Port Elizabeth seeking a better life and financial opportunities.

I have been unemployed for many years and could not afford any further skills training and studies, After researching skills opportunities in Port Elizabeth, I was fortunate to find out about the Sewing Skills Program offered by the Al-Fldaa Foundation. I always had a desire to learn to sew as fashion is my passion.

The Al-Fldaa Foundation took me through the wonderful journey of teaching me all the steps of creating a garment. Even after I had completed my course, the Al-Fidaa Foundation continued to provide support and mentoship by facilitating a space that allowed me to work from and so Breeze Fashions started. My first big breakthrough was an order for 300 work bags to the value of R23,000, shortly thereafter I received a business start up grant of R70,000 which aided me to setup my very own sewing studio. Currently I am supplying bespoke dresses to a local boutique shop and continue to provide sewing services to my clients and community.”
